Our history is as rich as the Merrimack Valley itself
Built upon the principles of history, industry and technology, MVMB is the result of high-level collaboration between like-minded organizations-developed by the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC) in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce (MVCC), Haverhill Chamber of Commerce and the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council.
How it all began
Approached by the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce in 2004 to develop a site to promote Haverhill, MVPC originally developed and implemented Haverhill Means Business (HMB). This initial project (now part of MVMB), led to recreating the same project for the Merrimack Valley Chamber in 2006-Merrimack Valley Means Business (MVMB) was then created to support the entire Merrimack Valley region, which now includes the original HMB site. This region-wide project resulted in an award-winning, technologically advanced website that is instrumental in creating new business and retaining existing business in the Merrimack region.

By following the trends in economic development, MVPC created an electronic, searchable, web-based database of business and parcel land inventory-the first-of-its-kind in Massachusetts. Using internet mapping technology, this spatial database is accessible using any web browser, and provides current information about: ownership, acreage, type of business, number of employees, zoning, land use, and proximity to nearest roadways.
This information database is the only comprehensive, field-based inventory of businesses in Massachusetts. We make great strides in maintaining current information, including monthly updates and annual (every one-to two years) field-based surveys. A total of approximately 11,600 businesses and 500 locations for sale or lease are accessible through this application. Location sites available for sale or lease are compiled and incorporated into the rich database during an annual field inventory phase.
